Case Studies - Coastal Dune Ecosystem Works
Semaphore to North Haven Coastal Dune Ecosystem Works
EBS Restoration has been working with the Port Adelaide Enfield Council since 2005 on various projects, concentrating in the dune ecosystem from Semaphore to North Haven. The various projects involve Dune Onion Weed (Trachyandra divariacata) control, planting, National Tree Day and general maintenance.
Dune Onion Weed is an invasive plant that is growing from Semaphore through to North Haven. The majority of the control is sensitive spot spraying trying to avoid any off-target damage. The control of Dune Onion Weed is critical to the sensitive coastal dune ecosystem in order to stop the invasive species from outcompeting with native vegetation. Other weed species that are controlled along the dune system include False Capper, Bridal Creeper and Boxthorn.
The staff at EBS Restoration plant up to 20,000 plants each year during the planting season, this includes participating on National Tree Day. Other tasks EBS Restoration carries out include general maintenance works such as slashing and spraying.
